How to Stop Procrastinating

How to Stop Procrastinating Let me tell you a secret. Overcoming procrastination is really EASY. Except most of the people who give you procrastination advice are completely out of line.

Let me explain with a story …

John is a man. He lives in a big city and has a typical 9 to 5 job.

One day John woke up with a headache. He didn’t give it much thought, he just took a pain reliever and went to work.
the next day and the next day. On the fourth day, when he woke up with a headache again, John realized that something was probably wrong. So he decided to go see a doctor.

On the way there, he ran into a co-worker.

“Hi John, where are you going?”

“I’m just going to see a doctor. I have a headache that won’t go away.”

“Oh, I used to have headaches too. Then I found out it was because I wasn’t drinking enough water. You should drink more water!”

John just smiled, nodded and they parted shortly after. John came to the doctor’s waiting room, sat down, and waited. Soon after, another patient came in, sat next to John, and they began to talk.

“So what are you here for?”

“I have this headache …”

“Ah, I used to have headaches too! They are caused by having too much tension in my neck and shoulders. Let me show you some relaxation exercises …”

At that moment, the doctor called out John’s name and he went to the doctor’s office.

Now, I won’t tell you the rest of John’s story, how the doctor diagnosed the cause of his headache and prescribed the proper treatment. Because that is not relevant to us.

What is relevant is the parallelism with overcoming procrastination:

Procrastination is a symptom, not the cause.

And like all symptoms, it is necessary to discover the root cause and cure it. Treating the symptom would be like taking painkillers constantly only to allow the pain to get worse over time, due to the untreated root cause.

The problem is, most people’s advice on how to stop procrastinating is like the two people John met on his way to the doctor.

People assume that just because something worked for their particular case of procrastination, it will work for all possible cases.

But the fact is that procrastination has many possible causes and you need to find out what the cause is in order to apply the proper cure.

The good news is that once you understand this principle, you can start to combat procrastination effectively! The not-so-good news … there are quite a few possible causes.

Fortunately, I have spent years compiling all the causes and their respective cures, and have put them together in a 100% free course. Just see the link at the end of this article.

For now, I’ll share one of the top 7 causes and the solution:

How to overcome procrastination caused by lack of clarity

Often times, you find yourself procrastinating when faced with a big task for one simple reason: You are not clear on what the next step is.

You try to take in the whole task at once, and this causes a feeling of overwhelming … that your mind escapes by procrastinating.

So here we show you how to divide the task so that it is easily digestible for your mind.

to break a big task

You want to break a large ambiguous task down into simple, practical steps to overcome this kind of laxity. (It would be better if you set a precedent in your mind as we walk together.)

So, let’s start this to answer a few questions:

How will you know that you have completed the task?
What should happen before that?
And before that?

Keep researching until you have a clear outline of everything you need to complete your job.

Then find out what is the specific next step you need to take. And make sure it’s actionable.

For example, “research food options” is not yet very clear. “Make a list of possible desserts” or “Google ‘Apple Pie Recipe’ are solid and practical steps. When you see them, you will know exactly what to do.

Break a challenging task down into a series of simple steps. And focusing on just one step at a time will completely end your procrastination, because hey, what’s so heavy about making a phone call or writing down a list of ideas?

Now all that remains is to act first. And then the next. and then …

As they say, the journey of a thousand miles is step by step.

How to Stop Procrastinating

How to Stop Procrastination in 10 Simple Steps

How to Stop Procrastinating  Have you ever sat at the end of the day and said to yourself “Where did the day go, I don’t feel like I accomplished anything today? “like millions of other people on this wonderful planet of ours, you’re a procrastinator!

Procrastination is the reason you are still in the same place you were last year. Procrastination is the reason you continually find yourself living in the past or future. Procrastination is a dream stealer!

However, there is light at the end of the tunnel, I recently realized that what has helped me to be more productive has not changed, but more importantly, the methods I use work just as well for other people. I have introduced these methods. too.

So if you really want to get more done every day, move towards your goals and dreams like never before! Then read on as I reveal the simple 10-step process that I and thousands of people like you use every day to finally learn how to stop procrastination.

Step 1. Focus.

Focus on one task at a time. Don’t start thinking about your next task until you have completed the current task. Don’t think EVERYTHING about the previous task once you have moved on to the next one. If the task you are working on is part of a larger project, set a specific goal for that time period (for example, read for half an hour, or a certain number of pages, or brainstorm). Step 2. Do the hardest task first.

Whatever task you are inclined to look at and immediately start making excuses NOT to do it, it is the task that you need to do first. Why? Because by doing this you are giving yourself the injection of enthusiasm you need to complete your list with GUSTO! The sense of success that comes from completing the most arduous task first will catapult your productivity to stratospheric levels.

Step 3. Clear your desk and clear your mind.

Cleaning your desk allows you to focus on one task at a time. And guess what? You’ve probably heard it before, an orderly environment equates to an orderly mind. So get rid of those piles of paper and keep your desk and mind FREE from clutter.

Step 4. Stay hydrated and take regular short breaks

Sometimes when you feel like you’re starting to lose focus, all you have to do may be a drink of water. Scientists have now proven beyond a reasonable doubt that regular fluid intake is vital to creativity, so be sure to take regular 5-10 minute drink breaks away from your work area, as well as do some exercises like walking a short distance. I find the short 5-minute meditation works very well as well.

Step 5. Work online! Filter those links.

Don’t click, bookmark! How many times have you searched for a topic online, clicked on some links and within what seemed to be just a few minutes, you find yourself reading something that has nothing to do with the original topic of your search? Once you start to click and delve into a topic, you can easily lose your focus and energy. If you absolutely feel that the link is amazing value for you, just bookmark it and select some time later to look at it, however, I find that I rarely return to the links I’ve booked, which can mean a lot of time saver!

Step 6. Create a reward system.

Sounds cool, doesn’t it? But most of us are probably not doing it on a consistent enough basis. It is a great incentive to move forward with the project. So, create a reward system for yourself and you will suddenly find yourself more motivated to put one foot in front of the other, even when the going gets tough.

Step 7. Be motivated.

Do you think you learn more when you are passionate about the topic? Bring your mind back to your school days. Did you learn more from the teachers who were passionate about their topic or from those who were going through the movements?

So even if you’re only counting pennies, even if you’re throwing the trash, do it enthusiastically, do it to the best of your ability, and always bring positive energy to the task. Use positive self-talk to convince yourself that what you do is important to big vision. The real key to this particular stage of the procrastination elimination process is deceiving yourself into thinking that what you do is extremely important to your success.

Step 8. It doesn’t have to be perfect.

We can often delay working on something because we want it to be perfect. Logically, we know that nothing is perfect; However, it can sometimes be difficult to find the balance between doing something perfectly and doing nothing at all. Don’t wait to start, start from where you are now, with everything you have now! Leave your comfort zone behind. This in and of itself can be the biggest hurdle to overcome.

Step 9. Turn off your email program.

Let your email rest. When I work, I quit my email program at the time and write my emails into regular text documents saved on my desktop, to send them later in a single block. Then, I send out all emails at once when I have completed a large portion of my work. This saves me a lot of wasted time reading emails that don’t help complete my task.

Step 10. Rename ‘procrastination’ and use something else instead!

Even the word “procrastination” can have negative overtones. Therefore it is important to change your mindset to something more positive. For example, I did some research online and browsed different websites. The thing now is that you originally only went online to find a certain piece of important information, but after about an hour you didn’t find the information you need.

two ways you can go about it. You can be bothered by yourself for wasting valuable time or you can classify that time as a break that was necessary to revitalize you and move forward. Then what you’ve done here is control the negative emotions associated with procrastination, transform them and use them to your advantage.

So there you have it. Overcoming procrastination isn’t easy, but it can be simple. Take the 10 steps above, and start using them today! And stop procrastination in its tracks. How to Stop Procrastinating

All the best
